• The latest Newsweek magazine includes its annual top 100 public schools in the nation and two Jacksonville schools are in the top 15. Stanton College Prep came in at No. 3 while Paxon School for Advanced Studies is No. 15. Tops in the nation is Talented and Gifted in Dallas.

• Those who went on the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Washington, D.C. fly-in a couple of weeks ago have been asked to take an on-line survey about the trip. The survey covers the trip from start to finish and asks participants to rate the speakers with comments, good or bad.

• A portion of the Northbank Riverwalk in front of the Fidelity National building is closed until the end of the week. The City is installing piping below the walkway.

• Saturday the City’s Neighborhoods Services Division and Office of General Counsel is offering a free, three-hour workshop for those who belong to homeowners/condo/neighborhood associations. It’s from 9 a.m.-noon in the Main Library’s conference center. Call 255-8200 to reserve a seat.

• Auto Truck Transport Corporation notified the mayor’s office last week that it intends to close its Alta Drive location. According to Scott Horner of Auto Truck, 20 employees will be out of work.

• Michelle King has joined Burdette Ketchum as the firm’s public relations director. Prior to joining the marketing consulting and communications firm, King was a communications consultant for BlueCross BlueShield of Florida, Carolina PR and Joe Public Relations in London.

• The Main Branch Library has a full day of performances June 9 as part of its summer music lineup. The Prelude Chamber Music Camp’s Grand Finale Concert will begin the day at 2 p.m. in the library’s Hicks Auditorium and will feature the best ensembles from Prelude Chamber Music Camp 2007. Then at 5 p.m., the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Choir, joined by the Ritz Singers, will perform. For more information on the library’s upcoming music schedule, call 630-2665.
