The CSX Corporation has made a $10,000 donation to Jacksonville Area Legal Aid through its 2007 corporate giving program. The donation comes on the heels of major budget cuts facing JALA as it heads into the 2006-07 fiscal year.

“We are thrilled to receive this generous gift from the CSX Corporation. It comes at a time of funding cuts and is more appreciated than ever,” said Christa Figgins, JALA’s development director. “We are so pleased to receive the recognition and support from such a prominent business leader. It is our hope that CSX’s commitment to JALA signals a new chapter of support from the business community,” she said.

Tori Kaplan, director of corporate citizenship at CSX, said JALA was chosen because of the role the organization plays in the community and its specialized legal services.

“We selected JALA as a recipient of our corporate giving program because it is a good organization that helps citizens on the First Coast with a broad range of legal services, making our community a better place to live,” said Kaplan. “We at CSX are committed to safety, protecting the environment and helping make communities safer places to live and work. We’ve seen the wonderful work JALA does and our donation to the organization supports that goal,” she said.

The CSX Corporation, based in Jacksonville, owns companies providing rail, intermodal and rail-to-truck transload services that are among the nation’s leading transportation companies, connecting more than 70 river, ocean and lake ports, as well as more than 2000 shore line railroads. The company’s mission is to provide safe, efficient and competitive transportation to its customers and make a positive difference in the communities it serves.
