Ten classic movies for the summer

The Florida Theatre has announced this year’s Summer Movie Classics schedule. Tickets are $6 per admission with the option to purchase a $40 movie card, good for any 10 admissions. All showings begin at 2:00 p.m. The series is sponsored by the Florida Times-Union.

• June 29 — “An American in Paris” (1951), starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron; directed by Vincente Minnelli.

• July 6 — “Yankee Doodle Dandy” (1942), starring James Cagney, Joan Leslie and Walter Huston.

• July 13 — “The Gods Must Be Crazy” (1980) starring Marius Weyers and Sandra Prinsloo; directed by Jamie Uys.

• July 20 — “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” (1978), starring Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Billy Preston.

• July 27 — “To Catch a Thief” (1955), starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly; directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

• Aug. 3 — “Spartacus” (1960), starring Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier and Tony Curtis; directed by Stanley Kubrick.

• Aug. 10 — “East of Eden” (1955), starring James Dean, Julie Harris and Raymond Massey.

• Aug. 17 — “Funny Face” (1957), starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.

• Aug. 24 — “The Searchers” (1956), starring John Wayne, Jeffrey Hunter and Natalie Wood; directed by John Ford.

• Aug. 31 — “Grease” (1978), starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
