The organization: The council is an affiliate of NEFAR that serves Realtors and invited affiliates in downtown Jacksonville area with caravans and networking meetings.

What he’ll do: “I’m charged with orchestrating the team that sets up our luncheons, caravans, events and outreach programs for our council. Additionally, I try to help those who serve as ambassadors for Jacksonville’s historic neighborhoods as we work to create a vibrant core of the city.”

How was he selected/elected? “I was originally nominated and elected to chair in 2006, but immediately had to turn it over to Sally Suslak of Atkinson Realty Group because I was called to deploy to Afghanistan. Fortunately, the council gave me another opportunity, and re-elected me to this position last fall.”

When are meetings and what happens during them? “We hold our monthly luncheon on the third Wednesday of each month and are starting a Northbank/Springfield caravan on the last Tuesday of each month. During the meetings we mingle, network, eat and learn. Programs involve education in development and issues facing the neighborhoods such as San Marco, Avondale, Riverside, and Springfield. Jack Diamond spoke at our January luncheon about an updated vision for downtown, and future speakers include Sheriff (John) Rutherford, developers and other city officials.”

His business: He is a Realtor with Watson Realty in Ortega.

Goals for 2008 as chair? “I hope to build on the success that Sally and others began to make this council an educational resource for Realtors interested in working the historic areas. I hope to create a forum to discuss the impact of public and private issues on residents and real estate values in our neighborhoods. I also hope to create vibrant networking and marketing opportunities for property near downtown.”

How does the council have an impact on the industry? “Realtors selling property in the historic districts are subject to special guidelines, and particular issues related to older homes. provide education and assistance to help ensure these transactions are professional and complete. We also can provide a forum for government or developers, for two-way communication with our members on issues affecting residents, property rights and values.”

What does the council offer members that is unique? “Opportunities to network and market properties in historic neighborhoods and a resource to learn about properly representing and selling older homes.”
