Members of the Jacksonville Bar Association entertained over 200 guests to raise funds for Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and the Bar Association Friday night at the Times-Union Center.
The first of its kind “There Oughta Be a Law” lawyer variety show featured over a dozen lawyers and judges who performed some of their favorite songs and scenes from their favorite plays.
“This may be the first of its kind in Florida, for the law community,” said Rose Marie Preddy, chair of the variety show subcommittee. “We hope to see the show get bigger each year.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit JALA.
John Delaney, president of the University of North Florida and former mayor of Jacksonville and Richard Mullaney, general counsel for the City of Jacksonville, shared master of ceremonies duties.
Mark Hall, of Bray & Lunsford, had most of the audience clapping along as he belted out “Let’s Stay Together.”
Circuit Court Judges Bernard Nachman and Roberto Arias received the biggest laughs for their comedic routine from “Catch 22.”
Patricia Dodson of Terrell Hogan was one of the most active in the performance, participating in a trio of scenes and contributing to the art show in the lobby.
The performance wasn’t confined to the stage with art works displayed throughout the lobby of the Terry Theater.
