Florida Coastal School of Law and Jacksonville University have announced the two private colleges are combining resources to allow students to earn both a bachelor’s degree and juris doctor degree in one year less than the standard track. The schools announced the program, called a 3/3, will be offered for the first time this fall.
The 3/3 program will allow selected JU students to enter Coastal Law after completing only three years of undergraduate study and earn both a baccalaureate and a juris doctor degree in six years. During the fourth year, students are essentially dually-enrolled in both bachelor’s and juris doctorate programs.
Coastal Law Vice Dean Terri Davlantes said she is “delighted the program will take root in the fall 2009.
“This program will provide students with the opportunity to earn both degrees in a minimum of six years, as opposed to the traditional seven years of study here in Jacksonville,” said Davlantes. “It’s a wonderful joint effort between our two schools, and we’re hopeful it will lead to more collaboration in the future.”
In addition to the annual Northeast Florida Environmental Summit, which will return for its 11th year in November, Davlantes said further opportunities could include symposiums and research initiatives.
“I also think it be would wonderful if we could create more opportunities for the faculty members to hold guest lectures on both campuses,” she said.
“This provides an excellent opportunity for our students to move quickly toward their career goals,” said JU President Kerry Romesburg. “Florida Coastal School of Law is a great partner and will be a quality experience for our graduates.”
