• For Duval County Public Schools, school’s really out for the summer (on Fridays at least) beginning Monday. That’s when new hours — Monday–Thursday from 7 a.m.– 5:30 p.m. — for schools and offices go into effect and will continue through Aug. 6.

• Just in time for the dog days of summer, the City will cut the ribbon on Confederate Park, the first City-owned dog park today. The park, located near Florida Community College at Jacksonville’s Downtown Campus at 956 Hubbard St., will have a ribbon cutting ceremony with City Council member Johnny Gaffney during a ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

• Speaking of dogs, the Landing is holding a happy hour June 21 for dogs and their owners. All of the drink specials have canine-themed names.

• Correction. The first study done on the City’s finances by Jacksonville Community Council Inc. was in 1977. In recent articles, it was incorrectly reported that the first study was in 1979.

• Nice gesture from Mayor John Peyton, who recently donated 100 tickets to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens for Dreams Come True kids and their families.

• Tourist Development Council member Fred Pozin has called for a meeting of the TDC Subcommittee on Florida’s First Coast of Golf June 25 at City Hall. Pozin chairs the committee which is looking at ways to use TDC money for Florida’s First Coast of Golf Tourism Regional Marketing Cooperative. The meeting is at 10 a.m. in Conference Room B.

• Dr. Quinton White of Jacksonville University put and end to the rumor that the Museum of Science & History is looking to move. During Thursday’s Jacksonville Waterways Commission meeting, White — who is on the board of directors at MOSH — said the museum is working with the City on plans to renovate the area, including Friendship Fountain, and there are no plans to relocate.

• Jacksonville Port Authority board member Dick Morales Jr. brought some positive news to the North Florida TPO during its Thursday meeting. The Port has begun receiving cargo from container giant CMA CGM as part of its worldwide route.
