It may have already been included in his resume, but Dan Bean officially became the new president of the Jacksonville Bar Association (JBA) at its monthly luncheon Thursday.

Outgoing President Joe Camerlengo used his last bit of podium time as president to both poke fun at and welcome Bean as the new leader of the JBA.

“I’m not kidding, it’s right here,” said Camerlengo, holding up a copy of Bean’s biography from the Holland & Knight Web site. “Jumping the gun a little bit aren’t you, Dan?”

Bean, along with President-Elect Courtney Grimm and Board of Governors members Geddes Anderson, Christa Figgins, Ray Driver, Katie Dearing and Braxton Gillam, were sworn in to office by Circuit Court Chief Judge Don Moran.

Holland & Knight Of Counsel Robert Beckham was named the seventh recipient of the Justice Raymond Ehrlich Trial Advocacy Award.

Circuit Court Judge Mallory Cooper attended the luncheon to update JBA members on the progress of the new Duval County Courthouse. The facility is scheduled for completion in 2012 and there will be opportunities throughout the building for private firms to honor members of the Jacksonville legal community with plaques or busts, said Cooper.
