What could be better than finding a piece of fine jewelry wrapped up and tied up with a bow under the tree on Christmas morning? How about finding that same package before Christmas and where you might least expect it?

Barnett Jewelers, a family-owned and operated business that has been Downtown since 1917, is making that possible now through Dec. 24. More than 100 gift boxes will be “hidden in plain sight” waiting for someone to discover them and you might find one anywhere, said Barnett Jewelers President Bill Barnett Sr.

“We thought it would be a great way to spread some holiday cheer around the community and make someone’s day a little better. This is finder’s keepers – there are no strings attached and absolutely no weepers,” he added.

Treasure seekers should on the lookout for small boxes wrapped in the store’s signature gold foil paper and tied with a burgundy bow. There will also be a tag attached to the package informing the finder what’s inside is theirs to keep.

The boxes will contain jewelry of different types ranging in value from $20-$200. The gift might be a sterling silver charm bracelet, pearls, earrings, a necklace or even a Seiko wristwatch. Each person who finds one of the boxes will also receive an entry into an additional drawing for a $500 gift certificate to redeem after Christmas.

“We don’t want the boxes to be impossible to find. They’ll be sitting right out in the open,” said Barnett. “This is a way for us to give back to the community that has given so much to our family over the years.”
