Mission
To empower homeless and at-risk men, women and children to achieve a better life through a full range of services, both direct and in collaboration with community partners, thus renewing hope and restoring lives back into the fabric of the community.

Created in Jacksonville in 1995, serves Duval County
Those served
The Sulzbacher Center is Northeast Florida’s only provider of comprehensive services for homeless men, women and children. The center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The Sulzbacher Center serves three nutritious meals every day and offers safe shelter to more than 350 homeless men, women and children every night. The center provides medical, dental, optometric and mental health care through its community health clinics. Job placement assistance and life skills programs equip men and women for employment and for success. High-quality children’s programs focus on the educational and emotional needs of the children living at the center. Most importantly the Sulzbacher Center offers something simple, but important — hope.
Biggest satisfaction
Seeing a family move out of our shelter and into a place of its own. It is truly heartwarming to see the look of relief and gratitude on a parent’s face as he or she moves the children into a home.
Biggest challenge
Serving the ever-increasing number of homeless and hungry in our community. The lines for meals are some of the longest that the center has ever seen. We serve more than 1,300 meals a day to hungry men, women and children in our community.
Hometown
I lived all over the United States as a child. I moved to Jacksonville 25 years ago to marry my husband, who was born and raised here.
First experience with community service
I was a VISTA volunteer between college and law school.
