Members of the D.W. Perkins Bar Association celebrated the holidays at the Clara White Mission Thursday night and raised funds for the mission’s “Skip A Meal for Clara” campaign.

“The Clara White Mission estimates that they can feed 10 people with a $20 donation,” said Duval County Judge Pauline Drake, who is president-elect of the association.

“It’s surprising when you participate in a meal service. Clara White provides food for all kinds of homeless people, both men and women. Some are mothers with 2- and 3-year-old babies. So the donations mean a lot,” she said.

Those interested in making a donation of time or money can find more information at www.skipamealforclara.org.

Officers for the D.W. Perkins Bar Association include: President Imani Boykin, President-elect Pauline Drake, Treasurer Charles Mapson and Secretary Shalisa Francis.

The Daniel Webster Perkins Bar Association is named after one of the first African-Americans to practice law in Duval County. He was a proponent of civil rights and a community leader.

The mission of the Perkins Bar is to “be that of a change agent to improve the plight of the African-American community and to erase all effects of past and present discrimination.”

Part of the mission is achieved by highlighting the positive achievements of members of the African-American community.
