The Young Lawyers Section is excited to announce the first “Super Chili Bowl Charity Cook-Off.” Mark your calendars for “Super Bowl Saturday” Feb. 5 for a day of fun, chili and charity. The cook-off will benefit The Sanctuary on 8th Street.

Teams of four (or more) will cook their best batch of chili to compete for the “Super Chili Bowl” trophy as determined by popular vote and local celebrity judges from the community.

The staple course will be combined with beer, wine and desserts for a hearty meal as you gear up for the big game. In addition, there will be live music from Electric Otter, featuring The Jacksonville Bar Association’s own Casey Stripling.

This good time will benefit a good cause. The important work that The Sanctuary does has been recognized by the local media, other charities and Jacksonville’s business and philanthropic community.

Located in Springfield on Jacksonville’s Northside, The Sanctuary serves to encourage and empower youth and adults in the neighborhood to become strong and independent by ministering to their spiritual, physical, social and intellectual needs.

The Sanctuary provides both afterschool programming and a summer program, as well as a small full-time home school program –- the Sanctuary School –- which provides individual attention to meet students’ educational needs.

You can find more information about The Sanctuary at www.sanctuaryon8th.org.

I also highly encourage you to visit the Sanctuary for a firsthand view of the services it provides that make a positive impact on some of our city’s most at-risk children.

Moreover, The Sanctuary always needs volunteers and you can enjoy a rewarding experience by donating your time to serve those in need.

Tickets to the event are $25 and will go on sale in January. You can order your tickets through the Young Lawyers Section or get them the day of the event. The Young Lawyers Section will send out more information in the coming weeks.

Also, the Young Lawyers Section is still accepting sponsorships from local law firms

and businesses. We are offering three levels of sponsorships: Habanero, Jalapeno and Poblano, which will be included on all promotional materials.

Your sponsorship also includes admission tickets to the event. Additionally, our Habanero sponsors are provided a full team entry.

Please contact me at 798-2614 to learn more about sponsorships and how your firm or business can be recognized for its generosity.

The “Super Chili Bowl Charity Cook-Off” is the latest step in the Young Lawyers Section’s tradition of combining fun and a worthy cause.

The “Run for Cover” is a 5K charity run to raise funds and awareness for skin cancer. All proceeds from the “Run for Cover” benefit the Florida Skin Cancer Foundation.

The YLS also organizes “Holiday in January,” a holiday party where Santa Claus gives gifts and toys to children placed in the foster care system during the traditional holiday season.

With your help, the Chili Cook-Off will be a tremendous success and provide a solid foundation for a long-running tradition. The event is modeled after the Tallahassee Bar Association Chili Cook-Off, which had its 14th installment in 2010.

If history has shown us anything, the members of The Jacksonville Bar Association love good food, a good time and a good cause. “The Super Chili Bowl Charity Cook-Off” will combine those three.

From everybody at the Young Lawyers Section, happy holidays and we look forward to seeing you at the “Super Chili Bowl Charity Cook-Off!”
