Corrigan honored with Raymond Ehrlich Award

Students and officials from Florida Coastal School of Law along with attorneys from numerous area firms and offices turned out Friday to honor U.S. Circuit Judge Timothy Corrigan as the 2010 Justice Raymond Ehrlich Award recipient.

The annual award, named after the much-honored former chief justice who served on the Florida Supreme Court, is given to a local judge or attorney who represents ideal professionalism, humanitarianism and integrity throughout the community during their career. The award and luncheon, in its fourth year, is presented by the FCSL Student Bar Association. This year the organization compiled testimonial footage of many of Corrigan’s colleagues, influences and friends who spoke glowingly of the judge and why he deserved the honor.

“I didn’t know anything about that,” said Corrigan, regarding the video presentation. “I’m very, very grateful for the kind words.”

Corrigan called the award an honor and reiterated his gratitude before speaking not on the issues or challenges of the profession today, but instead of the special opportunities he gets to take part in such as naturalization ceremonies, swearing in new lawyers, mentoring law students and witness everyday acts of professionalism from others.

On behalf of the students at FCSL, Student Bar Association President Whitney Wright called presenting the award to someone of Corrigan’s merit an absolute pleasure, something Ehrlich Award Committee Chairwoman Amanda Nunez echoed.

“He’s a tremendous person and great representative of the Florida legal system,” said Nunez. “He’s the type of person we (students at FCSL) strive to become.”
