• Peter Behringer, former president of Peterbrooke Chocolatier, will open an all-natural candy shop, Sweet Pete’s Pure, Simple Sweets, at 1922 Pearl St. The soft opening will be July 4th weekend.

• Jimmy Kelly, director of development for Daniel Memorial Inc., will become executive director of Dreams Come True in July.

• Moving vans were at the Farah & Farah Building on Adams Street Friday. The complete renovation of the interior of the building will begin soon and the firm and the building’s tenants who lease space are headed for temporary quarters at the Levy Building on Hogan Street.

• Law student Alex Whitman, son of Jacksonville attorney Josh Whitman, received two national writing awards along with his Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law recently. Alex earned a Burton Award for Legal Writing and won the 2010 American Constitution Society National Student Writing Competition.

• Orlando attorney Mayanne Downs will become The Florida Bar’s 62nd president June 25 when she is sworn in during the Bar’s 2010 Annual Convention. West Palm Beach attorney Scott G. Hawkins will be sworn in as president-elect at the same ceremony, which is being held at the Boca Raton Resort.

• JCCI will explore the topic of childhood obesity, healthy eating and active living at noon June 16 at its next issues and answers lunchtime discussion. Members of the Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities project will make presentations. The event is at JCCI’s offices at 2434 Atlantic Blvd. Bring your lunch if you like.
