Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association hosts judiciary
Tygart-Havice new president
The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association (JWLA) held its annual judicial reception at the Hyatt Thursday where it introduced its “Woman Lawyer of the Year” and its new board of directors.
The event is hosted each year to recognize both the judiciary and the legal community and allow both the opportunity to mingle in a social setting. Jacksonville Area Legal Aid Attorney and Pro Bono Development Coordinator Kathy Para was honored with the association’s “Woman of the Year” award and she is the ninth recipient of the award.
“She has energized the pro bono efforts of the Jacksonville legal community,” said Mary Scott, immediate past president of JWLA.
Para joined the JALA staff in 2009 to serve as the Pro Bono Development Coordinator. Prior to taking that position, she served JALA as the pro bono attorney representing clients seeking emancipation. She is a recipient of the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Award.
Scott’s term as president came to an end at the judicial reception and she was thanked for her service by new President Lindsay Tygart-Havice. She will be assisted by President-elect Stephanie Harriett.
