• Speaking of appointments, a handful or people are up for appointment to the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission. Parvez Ahmed and Susan Harthill have been nominated by the mayor’s office for their first terms while Ken Middleton has been nominated for a second term.

• The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission is tentatively scheduled to meet March 24 to vote on a contract with Hillwood Investment Properties to become master developer of Cecil Commerce Center. Executive Director Ron Barton said he’ll hold the meeting if he can finalize the deal.

• Neptune Beach officials and JTA representatives will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Neptune Beach City Hall to discuss the three-story mound of dirt just south of the Atlantic Boulevard Intracoastal Waterway bridge. Neptune Beach mayor Harriet Pruette said the dirt came from an old spoil site and it’s beginning to erode. The meeting is open to the public, but Neptune Beach and JTA officials will speak on the matter.

• Krista Parry has joined Vicki Joiner Bowers, PA, as an associate attorney. The firm will continue to practice elder law, Medicaid and long-term care planning, estate planning, probate and guardianship.

• Northeast Florida high school students can take a life guarding training class at the University of North Florida. The first class — March 29-April 2 — coincides with spring break for St. Johns County schools. The second class is April 5-9 and coincides with spring break in Duval County. It’s $150, you must be at least 15 years old and the class size is limited to 14. For more information, call UNF’s Aquatics Center at 620-2854.

• According to co-executive directors Warren Skeels and Brenda Egedy Kolb, look for the Jacksonville Film Festival to announce its broadcast partner soon for the Oct. 13-17 event. The festival’s media partners have been set.

• Attorney James “Joby” Birr has been elevated to shareholder in Gunster’s Jacksonville office. Birr practices in the fields of construction law and commercial litigation.

• The Law Offices of Carl D. Dawson and Michael Fox Orr welcome attorney Giovanni Stewart, formerly of Marshall Dennehey. Stewart will continue to focus his practice on construction defect and commercial litigation.

• The City’s Office of General Counsel recently created a Land Use and Environmental Law Department and promoted Assistant General Counsel Jason Teal to division chief of the Regulatory Division and Dylan Reingold to division chief of the Land Use Division.
