The Adams Class Ship Museum at the Landing has become a popular port of call for shoppers and tourists staying in Downtown hotels. In addition to the selection of military caps, shirts and other souvenirs, it’s also a museum of ship fittings and equipment from Adams-class destroyers.

It’s also headquarters for the Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association, the group of veterans dedicated to bringing the USS Charles F. Adams, the first of the class of vessels and the only remaining example, to the Southbank to serve as a floating museum.

The store at the Landing may be a little short-handed Thursday when members of the crew will be marching in the City’s Veterans Day Parade along with the local Filipino-American veterans organization.

The museum and store will be open Veterans Day and parade spectators are invited to visit after the procession passes by, said retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Pat Stroud, whose final four tours of duty were aboard Adams-class destroyers. The museum is offering a 20 percent discount for active duty and retired military personnel on the holiday.

“We might be closed the Friday after Thanksgiving, but we’ll sure be open on Veterans Day,” said Stroud.
