The Fourth Annual St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser for the St. Johns County office of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid raised just over $4,000 this year.

On behalf of low-income and underserved persons in the Seventh Judicial Circuit, we express our sincere thanks to the Canan Law Firm for continuing this important and festive event.

The money raised will be used primarily to support the costs associated with the pro bono program in St. Johns County.

Even with a pro bono attorney, there are often costs associated with a case, such as deposition fees, publication costs and title searches. The pro bono attorney who is already donating his or her time is not required to cover these costs.

The money also will be used for professional training for pro bono attorneys.

In addition to CLE online webinars that are developed in support of pro bono attorneys, the St. Johns County office also stocks a small library of audio and videotapes. The funds raised by the Canan Law Firm help to update this library.

The need for civil legal services for low-income persons has never been greater. The generous participation of the Canan Law Firm helps to ensure that more people are represented and our system of justice is strengthened.

For information on how to volunteer in the Fourth and/or Seventh Judicial Circuits, attorneys are encouraged to contact Kathy Para, [email protected].
