• Jacksonville Port Authority CEO Paul Anderson is the scheduled speaker for the meeting Friday morning of the Downtown Council of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. at Currents Riverview Bistro in the Aetna Building on the Downtown Southbank. The Sept. 16 meeting will feature Jaxson de Ville. Information: www.downtowncouncil.org.

• Governor Rick Scott announced three reappointments and three appointments to the Florida State College at Jacksonville district board of trustees. From Jacksonville, he reappointed Kevin Delaney, a retired U.S. Navy rear admiral and the president and chief executive officer of Delaney and Associates, and Thomas “Mac” McGehee Jr., executive vice president of Mac Papers Inc. since 1981. Newly appointed are Karen Bowling, deputy chief administrative officer for Mayor Alvin Brown, and Douglas Burnett, a retired adjutant general for the state of Florida and a self-employed consultant. From Fernandina Beach, Scott reappointed Jim McCollum, a retired regional director for BellSouth. From Bryceville, he appointed Candace “Candy” Holloway, director of medical education for the American Lung Association of the Southeast. The appointments began Tuesday and are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

• The Main Street America Group appointed Steve Peeters as chief operating officer and executive vice president of insurance operations, Bruce Fox as vice president of legal services and Dan Gaynor as vice president of commercial lines. Peeters joined the Jacksonville-based super regional insurance company in February 2010 as vice president and head of commercial lines and became senior vice president of product operations a year ago. Fox, Main Street America’s general counsel and secretary, leads the company’s corporate law and state filings functions. He joined Main Street America in 2002 as a senior field attorney. Gaynor joined Main Street America in February as director of commercial lines product and underwriting.

• The second BUBBA Burger Grill opened in Jacksonville Tuesday at Baymeadows and Florida 9A. The “fast casual” restaurant takes the place of Times Grill near Stein Mart. Hickory Foods, which owns Bubba Burger, plans to open two more stores in Jacksonville, one along Normandy Boulevard near Cassat Avenue and another along Town Center Boulevard in Fleming Island.

• Fortegra Financial Corp. said Bob Abramson has accepted the position of executive vice president of Jacksonville-based Fortegra Financial and president of Bliss & Glennon. Bliss & Glennon is Fortegra’s wholesale surplus lines broker business.

• Two Jacksonville Realtors received major awards last month at the Florida Realtors annual Convention & Trade Expo in Orlando. Watson Realty’s Wendell Davis, the association’s 2010 president, was named 2011 Realtor of the Year, and Richard “Rick” Macdonald of The Legends of Real Estate was named Humanitarian of the Year.

• The Department of Children & Families Northeast Florida region announced promotions for two longtime managers. Patricia “Pattie” Mallon has been named the new Regional Family and Community Services Director. Yvette Burch has been named the new Regional Economic Self-Sufficiency Director, responsible for the department’s ACCESS public assistance program. Both will report directly to Managing Director Nancy Dreicer.
