Jacksonville attorney Charles Trippe, a partner with Moseley, Pritchard, Parrish, Knight & Jones, was named Gov. Rick Scott’s general counsel Wednesday.

Trippe practiced in the area of complex civil litigation with Moseley Prichard and will oversee legal issues that the general counsel handles for the governor’s office, said a release issued by the Scott team.

Trippe will begin the role March 1.

Trippe also has served as general counsel for litigation for CSX Transportation Inc. and was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1995.

A graduate of the Columbia School of Law, Trippe is also admitted to practice in New York, Massachusetts and several federal courts.

Trippe will be meeting with members of Scott’s team leading into next week and was not able to comment Wednesday about his appointment.

Courtney Grimm, The Jacksonville Bar Association president and an attorney with The Bedell Firm, said she was happy to hear of the appointment.

“Charlie is a fine Jacksonville lawyer and a respected member of our association,” she said. “We’re pleased to see him in this important state position.”

Scott also named Francis Gibbs as chief of staff and Jerry Curington as general counsel of the Florida Department of Transportation.

“I am glad these three qualified individuals are joining my administration,” Scott said in a statement.

“They will play an integral role in our mission of creating jobs, encouraging economic development and improving government efficiency,” he said.

Gibbs was most recently chief of staff and chief policy adviser to U.S. Rep. Connie Mack.

Curington is currently the general counsel to the Department of Children and Families.
