• The Smith Hulsey & Busey law firm has hired two associates, Mary Calcote and Daniel Stocker.

Calcote, a fifth-year associate, joins the firm’s corporate practice. Stocker, a first-year associate, joins the litigation practice. Calcote has five years of experience in tax analysis, corporate law and litigation. She earned her law degree from Florida State University and a Masters of Laws in Taxation at the University of Florida. Stocker has financial advisory experience through working with global professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. He received his law degree from the University of Florida.

• Karin Posser has joined McGlinchey Stafford PLLC’s Jacksonville office where she will focus her practice on consumer financial services litigation, real estate litigation, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights. She is the fifth attorney to join the Jacksonville office since it opened in August.

• Folio Weekly Founder Sam Taylor will present the keynote address at the spring commencement of The Art Institute of Jacksonville. The event starts at 1 p.m. June 18 at the Twin Lakes Academy Middle School along Point Meadows Drive.

• John M. Phillips left Morgan & Morgan to open the Law Office of John M. Phillips. He will specialize in civil, criminal, military and sports and entertainment law. He plans offices in Jacksonville, Savannah and Tuscaloosa, Ala. He previously opened a sports agency in 2009, The Breakthrough Sports Agency.

• Michael Mayo becomes hospital president of Baptist Medical Center, effective July 5. Mayo comes to Baptist Health from Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he has served as president since 2008. He was CEO and COO for several HCA hospitals, including positions at Orange Park Medical Center and Memorial Hospital Jacksonville. He was a vice president of Baptist Health from November 1999 to August 2001.

• Joe Mitrick, currently hospital president of Baptist Medical Center, has been promoted to president of Transitional Care, a new position for Baptist Health, effective July 1. Mitrick also will serve as hospital president of Baptist Medical Center Beaches, a position he has held previously.

• Edward Sim, currently hospital president of Baptist Medical Center Beaches, is being promoted to the new position of president of Physician Integration for Baptist Health as of July 1. He will lead Baptist Health in developing closely aligned relationships with physicians. He assumes his new role July 1.

• The American Bar Association recently honored former Florida Bar President Howard Coker with its Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section “Pursuit of Justice” award. The award “recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and who excel in providing access to justice for all.”

• Addison Commercial Real Estate Inc. CEO Duke Addison announced the sale of the former “Red Chilies” restaurant at 8661 Baymeadows Road to SUNI LLC. Addison represented the seller, Park Properties. He also announced his firm is the exclusive leasing agent for Dunn Avenue Marketplace, an 11,000-square-foot retail plaza at 11218 McAllister Blvd. Recent leases include Victoria Food Mart, Adrienne’s Dance & Baton and The Dog House Gourmet Grille & Café.

• “Conversations on Catfish, Courtrooms, and Change: The Life and Times of Henry Lee Adams Jr.,” a documentary directed by lawyer William J. Sheppard and his son, Lang Sheppard, of Stunt Dog Productions received the Best Narration award and an Honorable Mention at the 2011 Los Angeles Movie Awards. The film recounts the story of Judge Henry Lee Adams Jr. and his rise from the poverty-stricken and segregated Jacksonville Eastside through the civil rights movement to his position as the first black Senior U.S. District Judge in Florida.
