The rain stayed away from the Deerwood Country Club Thursday as members of The Jacksonville Bar Association enjoyed their annual golf and tennis outing and elected its new board.

The JBA received 473 votes for the election of new members to the board of governors. Geddes Anderson, Christa Figgins and Katie Dearing were re-elected to the board. Mark Bajalia and Lee Wedekind III were elected to serve their first terms on the board.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve The Jacksonville Bar Association now as a member of the board of governors,” said Bajalia. “This new position will give me an additional platform for which to continue the efforts and initiatives we have undertaken for the Bench and Bar Professionalism Committee and I look forward to serving.”

Wedekind will join a group of seven former Young Lawyers Section presidents on The JBA board of governors. That group also includes incoming President-elect Ray Driver, Anderson, Dearing, Braxton Gillam, Kirby Oberdorfer and Troy Smith. Outgoing President Courtney Grimm is also a former YLS president.

“It’s a natural transition because while serving as YLS president you are a part of The JBA board as the YLS representative,” said Grimm. “You become involved on the different committees and sections, so you become more knowledgeable about the organization and how the board functions.”

The recently elected board members will join Giselle Carson, Tad Delegal, Gillam and Smith.

The board will be sworn in at The JBA’s June 15 meeting.
