Lender Processing Services said this morning it has appointed Hugh R. Harris as president and chief executive officer. He also will serve on the board of directors. Harris served as president of the Financial Services Technology division at Fidelity National Financial and Fidelity National Information Services, before the FIS spinoff of Lender Processing Services. Former LPS president and CEO Jeffrey Carbiener stepped down in July because of “significant health-related reasons,” according to the company.

• Look for a Pei Wei Asian Diner at St. Johns Town Center. Plans at the St. Johns River Water Management District show a 3,210-square-foot Pei Wei next to Beards Jewelry in The Markets. Pei Wei features Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese dishes at prices generally $10 or less. It’s owned by P.F. Chang’s China Bistro.

• Fraternal Order of Police President Nelson Cuba said Tuesday that the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is laying off 48 police officers and eliminating 23 vacant positions in response to City budget cuts. “This is unprecedented,” Cuba said. “This puts the community at risk.” He said the most recent class of police academy graduates and part of the previous class were cut. Sheriff John Rutherford has called a news conference for noon today.

• Karl Rove, national political consultant and adviser to former President George W. Bush will join talk show host Neal Boortz and WOKV AM-FM Washington Bureau Chief Jamie Dupree Nov. 18 in Jacksonville for “Stand Up For America: Debt, Taxes, and You Decide 2012.” The 7 p.m. event is planned at the Times-Union Center. • Duval County Tax Collector Michael Corrigan will change office hours for the nine Tax Collector branch locations effective Dec. 5. The new hours will be 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Current office hours are 7:15 a.m.-5:45 p.m. Hours for the Ed Ball Building Satellite Office at 214 N. Hogan St. will remain 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Services also remain available on the Tax Collector website 24/7, including property tax payments, DMV renewals, payment of parking citations and scheduling appointments for certain driver’s license services.  For more information, visit www.coj.net/tc or call 630-1916.

• Paul Anderson, CEO of the Jacksonville Port Authority, is scheduled as the keynote speaker at noon Tuesday at a World Affairs Council of Jacksonville event at The River Club Downtown. The lunch event is co-hosted with the Gate Governors Club. Anderson will speak about the port’s ties to the area’s economic future.
