Taverna expanding in San Marco

Taverna restaurant, at 1986 San Marco Blvd., is expanding in what plans show as a $250,000 construction project that should start Aug. 1 and be completed by Oct. 1.

Osterer Construction Co. is shown as the contractor and Design/Cooperative LLC is the designer.

Taverna opened in the space on San Marco Square in the fall of 2009 and is operated by husband-and-wife team Sam and Kiley Efron. The location formerly was Café Carmon.

Taverna has taken over the space next door at 1984 San Marco Blvd., formerly occupied by Mimi's, which will boost its area to 3,904 square feet. Plans indicate 158 seats.

Plans filed for Hawkers in Five Points

The City is reviewing plans for a Hawkers restaurant at Post and Park streets in Five Points.

Its Facebook page, Hawkers describes itself as a Malaysian restaurant.

Nialvi LLC of Orlando is listed as the contractor for the $50,000 project to remodel about 2,800 square feet of space.

Gary Mills of The Florida Times-Union reported May 30 that the 2-year-old restaurant in Orlando would lease three storefronts at the north end of the Five Points retail strip. An October opening was planned.

He reported the restaurant was named for the popular street vendors across Asia and offers a menu consisting largely of small plates of some of the most popular street foods from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and Korea. Other offerings include wok stir-fried noodles, traditional noodle soups and more.

Mills wrote that Hawkers plans to offer more than 100 craft beers, including 10 on tap.

Subway planned in North Arlington

A Subway sandwich shop is planned at 9100 Merrill Road, No. 2, in the Publix Super Markets Inc. shopping center.

Plans filed with the City show a $6,600 renovation for a 1,656-square-foot shop.

Gordon Hartley Construction Services LLC is shown as the contractor for the project.

Chick-fil-A build-out OK'd at JU

The City approved interior renovations for Chick-fil-A at the Jacksonville University Davis Student Commons building. The $150,000 project for the Chick-fil-A and common area work is being handled by Jewel of the South Inc.

Moxie topping off at Markets at Town Center

The City approved the roofing permit for the Moxie Kitchen & Cocktails restaurant at The Markets at Town Center, next to St. Johns Town Center, at 4972 Big Island Drive. Rooftec Systems is the contractor for the $56,343 project.

• Yummy Yogurt Mudfl LLC, 4820 Deer Lake Drive, No. 13, to Chintu K. Patel.

• La Razita Mexican Grocery, 5315 Firestone Road, retail store, to Katracho Investment Corp.
