Three Jacksonville developments, a Tallahassee project and an area business leader accepted the 2013 Awards for Excellence on Thursday from the Urban Land Institute North Florida District Council.

The institute’s mission is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.

The awards event took place Thursday night at the EverBank Center auditorium Downtown. Honorees were:

• Preston Haskell, founder and chairman of The Haskell Co. design-build company based in Jacksonville, was presented the Visionary Award.

• The Gaines Street Revitalization in Tallahassee was honored in the “Downtown” category.

• Black Sheep Restaurant in the Five Points area of Jacksonville’s Riverside commercial and residential neighborhood was chosen in the “Private Sector” category.

• The University of North Florida Student Union was recognized for the “Public Sector” category.

• The John Gorrie a condominium, a former school in Riverside Avondale redeveloped by former Jacksonville Jaguars owners Delores Barr Weaver and Wayne Weaver, was selected in the “Reuse Sector” category.
