How did you get involved?

Big Brothers, Big Sisters was an opportunity for me to not only make a difference, but watch it happen. My “little sister” and I have been matched since 2008, and it has been wonderful watching her grow and giving her advice on school, family, everything. We’ve made so many fun memories. It is a time commitment, but I feel it’s a great opportunity to be a mentor and truly impact someone’s life.

One of our clients suggested fostering with Animal Care and Protective Services. The animal shelter receives several kittens and puppies, so they rely on “foster parents” to keep the animal until it is old enough to be adopted. The shelter is forced to euthanize the animal if there are not enough cages, so I’m proud to not only raise a kitten or puppy, but save a life. Besides, who doesn’t want to snuggle with a kitten? It’s also a great opportunity to have a pet for a few weeks without the long-term commitment.

How can someone else get involved?

To become involved with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, visit bbbsnefl.org or call (904) 727-9797. To become a foster parent with Animal Care and Protective Services, call (904) 255-7369.

What was the last book you read or are reading?

A client just suggested “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man,” and I’m loving it.
