Farah & Farah awarded its annual Empowering Greatness scholarships to high school seniors Savannah Bady and Elijah Elliot.

The law firm partners with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Florida and the Florida Prepaid College Foundation to award the students full tuition and local fees for 60 lower-division semester credit hours at any public university, college or trade school in Florida.

“We’re thrilled to continue to support the next generation of exceptional leaders with this scholarship,” said Eddie Farah, founding partner, in a news release. “The absolute best part of my year is calling these outstanding young people and telling them they won the scholarship and their first two years of college are on us.”

Savannah Bady attends Westside High School. She completed eight weeks of clinical rotations at Brooks University Crossing and St. Vincent’s Riverside through her school’s Certified Nursing Assistant program.

Bady plans to continue her healthcare career education at Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Elijah Elliot attends KIPP Bold City High School. He impressed the selection panel with his commitment to mentorship and community advocacy. By balancing his academic schedule with his employment at Hibbett Sports and community service, Elliott has developed the strong leadership, empathy, and time management skills necessary for his future journey at Bethune-Cookman University, the selection panel said.

He is a mentee in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, volunteering with youth at the Johnson Family YMCA and donating platelets with OneBlood.

Winners were selected based on a grading rubric followed by a judging panel that included:

  • Marva Johnson, J.D., MBA, president of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University
  • Tenikka Hughes, Emmy Award-winning evening anchor at Action News Jax
  • Kiva Williams, founder of Mahogany Kids Fine Arts Foundation
  • Vially Dorestant, paralegal and creative strategist
  • Taylor Richardson, senior biology major at Spelman College and a Morgan Stanley Scholar
  • Jordan Beverly, past Empowering Greatness scholarship recipient

Farah & Farah said the Empowering Greatness scholarship program draws its inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr.’s words: “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve.”
