Name: David M. Wells

Age: 61 and holding

Family: An amazing extended family: Janet, Ashleigh, Katelyn Emily, Mike, Wes, Felix, Miles, soon-to-be Kaleah, and an amazing mother, three sisters and brother.

Pets: None that claim me

Education: University of Miami (J.D., 1980) and Florida International University (B.S., 1977)

Admitted to the Bar: 1980

Employed by: Gunster

Field of practice: Complex business litigation, construction law and risk counseling

Professional organizations: Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers and master, Chester Bedell Inns of Court

Community involvement: Most of my community involvement has been through my church where you meet real people with real problems who cannot afford a lawyer. My most fulfilling involvement was working with my Gunster colleague, Bill Adams, The Delores Barr Weaver Center for Women, Hubbard House and Community Connections to represent Bianella Susana, the young, at-risk mother of Cristian Fernandez, in her sentencing.

How did you become involved? Through Dr. Lawanda Ravoira and Dr. Jacqueline Brown of The Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center.

How can someone else become involved? Let it be known in the Bar that you are willing to help. Hank Coxe and Buddy Schulz are a good place to start.

What have you learned/achieved through the experience? That our community can pull together with the Bar and the judiciary to help salvage lives.

What was the last book you read or are reading? “In the Clutches of the Law: Clarence Darrow’s Letters”
