Overdue traffic tickets and criminal fines are getting a hefty slash Saturday, part of the Duval County Clerk of Court’s “Operation Green Light.”

People facing fines can pay them from 8 a.m.- 4p.m. Saturday at the Duval County Courthouse, 501 W. Adams St., without the 40 percent collections surcharge. For example, a $262 ticket for running a red light would be reduced to $157.

In a news release, Clerk of Courts Ronnie Fussell called the promotion a chance for people to pay lower fines and, for some, an opportunity to restore their driving privileges.

The Tax Collector’s Office within the Yates Building also will be open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. to issue new licenses after fines have been paid and licenses have been reinstated.

Clerk’s Offices in 60 of 67 counties throughout the state are participating in the promotion. Bradford and Nassau counties are taking payments today. Baker, Clay, Putnam, St. Johns and Union counties will join Duval in participating Saturday.
