The task of following Tad Delegal’s Daily Record article submission is daunting at best.

However, I will tell you, there are no walls surrounding the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club — which is the location of this year’s Young Lawyers Section annual charity golf tournament.

Every year, the YLS of The Jacksonville Bar Association hosts an event we call the “Tee it Up for Charity” tournament.

While this tournament is arguably the YLS event that raises the most money, the charity benefiting from this unique and unparalleled event changes each year.

This is my second year serving as chair of the Tee it Up tournament and I could not be more excited to make this event the best it has ever been.

The reason being is the Ribault High Future Lawyers Mentorship Program is the beneficiary of this year’s tournament.

In the last year or so, the YLS has teamed up with the Jacksonville Public Education Fund (JPEF) to mentor high school students who have an interest in getting into the legal profession and becoming lawyers.

While the initial involvement was one the YLS knew would be mutually beneficial and rewarding, we could not have expected how rewarding this project would be for the YLS.

While the YLS is committed to putting everything into every charity it seeks to assist throughout the year, the Ribault High Future Lawyers Mentor Program has truly earned a special place in our heart.

The YLS mentored 20 students through the program who were able to participate in mock trials, visit the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse, Duval County Courthouse, State Attorney’s Office and Public Defender’s Office.

This year, the YLS has a goal to expand this program and truly make it a staple in the community.

The impact this program has made on the mentees is unrivaled and one of the most rewarding things the YLS has been a part of since its inception. I invite each of you to help the YLS and raise funds to support this truly unique charity.

In January, members of the JBA’s Young Lawyers Section Board of Governors accepted the Affiliate Public Service Project of the Year Award from The Florida Bar for its work with Ribault High School.

In addition to the Tee it Up tournament benefiting a wonderfully unique and local charity that truly needs the backing of the Jacksonville legal community as a whole, this year’s event will be a fun way of showing support and raising awareness and support for Ribault High Future Lawyers.

The tournament will be Oct. 20 at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club Ocean Course.

Lunch will be served followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. We will have prizes for the top winners and will also have an awards ceremony with refreshments following the tournament.

In addition to the overall winning team, awards will also be given for closest to the pin and longest drive — and who knows, you may be able to purchase some assistance in obtaining these awards.

Rumor also has it good times will be had by all who participate, just ask prior participants. Trust me, you will not want to miss out on this event.

In addition to purchasing a foursome to play, we are also offering several levels of sponsorship, which are as follows:

• Platinum sponsor ($10,000): Name prominently displayed on all promotional materials

• Gold sponsor ($5,000): Name on all promotional materials and 3 foursomes

• Beverage cart ($4,000): Name on only beverage cart

• Awards ceremony ($4,000): Name prominently displayed at awards ceremony following tournament

• Golf sponsor ($1,500): 1 hole sponsorship and a foursome

• Foursome ($1,250)

• Hole sponsor ($500): Name displayed at sponsorship hole on the golf cart screen and option to set up a display at the tee box.

I encourage you to help the YLS raise money for the Ribault High Future Lawyers and make an investment in the future of our legal community.

If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities, please contact me at [email protected].

The YLS is endeavoring to make a difference in the lives of these mentees and needs the support of the legal community to grow this program into what we envision it could and will be.
