A local veteran attended a brief counsel and advice session of the Veterans Legal Collaborative.
The veteran was concerned and frustrated that, although he had paid in full for his mobile home, the holder of the title refused to pass it to the veteran.
Attorney Lee Kellison agreed to assist with the matter and achieved a favorable outcome for his client.
The situation, though littered with injustices, resulted in justice prevailing for the client. Kellison provided information on the case.
What were the basic facts of your case?
My legal aid client purchased a mobile home on an installment payment basis. He made his final installment payment in 2012.
In 2015, he still had not received a certificate of title. He went to the Division of Motor Vehicles to inquire about getting his title to his mobile home and found out it was titled to another person and there was a lien on it.
What were you able to accomplish for your client?
We settled the case with my client obtaining a return of all his money previously paid for the mobile home plus costs. We hope the settlement award sent a strong message to the opposing party.
Why was this outcome important?
My client wanted to move, but could not because he couldn’t sell his mobile home without the title.
He was essentially stuck in spite of the fact he had paid for the mobile home in full and had the documentation to prove it.
With the settlement proceeds, he purchased a new trailer and now plans to travel the country.

What advice do you have for other attorneys considering pro bono service?
Get involved. You will surely meet some interesting people and have an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.
Kellison provided excellent advocacy for this veteran who served his country in Vietnam. His client’s goal was simply to move into retirement with the freedom to travel a bit and enjoy new places.
