After a detour the past few years to East Bay Street, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival returns this weekend to Downtown’s urban core along Laura Street and at Main and Monroe Streets.
“It’s back where it belongs,” said Mayor Lenny Curry as he and other city officials offered a preview of the event that begins tonight with the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition at the Florida Theatre.
The festival then will continue through Sunday on stages at Hemming Park, the Jacksonville Landing and at Main and Monroe streets.
“We have 36 artists and 22 hours of music on the schedule,” said Dave Herrell, city sports and entertainment officer.
An addition this year is the “Second Line Parade,” a procession led by musicians, followed by anyone who wants to walk along, that will begin at 2 p.m. at Hemming Park and end at the Landing.
“It will be New Orleans-style with beads and umbrellas,” Herrell said.
