Bonchon, a restaurant chain specializing in Korean-style fried chicken, is joining the lengthening list of restaurants joining The Strand at Town Center and its neighboring developments.

Bonchon will lease about 2,200 square feet of space at 4972 Town Center Parkway next to Hobby Lobby. An estimated $200,000 build-out is pending.

The bonchon.com site shows it is “coming soon.” A Bonchon representative did not respond to an email for comments.

“Bonchon” is Korean for “my hometown” and refers to the company’s roots in Busan, South Korea. It is based in New York City.

Its website says that along with fried chicken, it serves savory Asian fusion dishes and Korean specialties, such as bibimbap, jachae and tteokbokki.

Those specialties are noodles or rice dishes with different ingredients and toppings. Check them out at bonchon.com.

It also serves American-inspired food such as Bonchon sliders, tacos, wraps and seasoned french fries.

It says that it “harmonizes the fried chicken and beer experience” and that all chicken is made to order.

Its first location outside of South Korea opened in 2006 in Fort Lee, New Jersey. It soon opened a flagship restaurant in Manhattan.

More than 236 restaurants operate in nine countries, with 63 open in the United States, including corporate and franchise-owned locations.

A map shows locations in 18 states and the District of Columbia. It lists Orlando and Jacksonville as its Florida sites.

The online menu for a Orlando store shows chicken wings, drums, strips and a combo ranging in price from $12.95 for 10 wings to $33.95 for 15 large drums.

In addition, starters on that menu range from $6.95 for shrimp shumai to $11.95 for tteokbokki. Main dishes range from $9.95 for a Bonchon wrap to a $14.95 for bull dak, stir-fried spicy chicken with rice cakes.

Sides include kimchi, pickled radish, steamed rice and edamame.

Bonchon’s site shows it has three types of restaurants — a sports bar that offers a full bar and TVs; a traditional sit-down restaurant for casual dining; and a quick-service restaurant for express-style dining.

Bonchon closed several locations over the past several years in the Midwest.

Bonchon will join other new-to-town restaurants in The Strand, including Chuy’s, a Tex-Mex restaurant that has opened, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and Fogo de Chao Churrascaria.  Moe’s Southwest Grill also is opening there.

The Crossing at Town Center, owned by the same developer as The Strand, will include PDQ.

Town Center Promenade, owned by another developer, also is opening along Town Center Parkway near The Strand.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews, Newk’s Eatery and Taco Bell have opened there, while several more restaurants are under development.
