‘You can feel the history in the documents’

If you’d like to view replicas of documents related to the founding of America and its history, visit the jury assembly room at the Duval County Courthouse.

The Freedom Shrine, a project of the Exchange Club of Jacksonville Beach, includes 29 historic documents from the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights to Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The courthouse display is the 13th Freedom Shrine in Jacksonville, said Exchange Club board member Tim Jenkins. He said the club began the project on the national level about 70 years ago as part of its mission to promote Americanism. “You can feel the history in the documents,” Jenkins said.
