Legal notebook: Applicants sought for Duval judge vacancy

The 4th Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission has been asked to submit to Gov. Rick Scott nominees for a vacancy in the Duval County Court.

Applicants must have been a member of The Florida Bar for the preceding five years, a registered voter and a resident of Clay, Duval or Nassau counties at the time he or she assumes office.

The application is available at floridabar.org under See More Links for Lawyers, then Apply for a Judgeship under Opportunities.

A complete paper version of the application must be delivered to:

A PDF of the complete application, with a color photograph, and a redacted version excluding all exempt information under Chapter 119, F.S. or other applicable public records law, and clearly identified as such, must be sent to: [email protected].

To be considered, applications must be received by 5 p.m. July 17.

Interviews will be conducted Aug. 11 in Room 7139 at the Duval County Courthouse, 501 W. Adams St. in Jacksonville.

Paralegal to serve as national liaison

Kristi Clark, paralegal at The Quick Law Group, has been selected to serve as the National Association of Legal Assistants board liaison for the Northeast Florida Paralegal Association. She will represent NEFPA at the NALA annual convention in July in Orlando.

Clark has been a member of NEFPA for three years and is serving her second term as a board representative.

Heape elected treasurer

Jennifer Heape, a certified paralegal and Florida registered paralegal at Spohrer Dodd, was elected treasurer of the Paralegal Association of Florida’s executive board.

Heape is the immediate past president and current first vice president of the First Coast chapter of PAF. 

The Paralegal Association of Florida was formed in 1976 and has approximately 1,000 members.
