UPS to shift workers to Westlake center

United Parcel Service Inc. seeks an administrative deviation that would allow for 304 parking spaces for cars and 112 spaces for truck-trailers.

UPS will use the 399,190-square-foot warehouse on almost 40 acres at 12400 Presidents Court for hub capacity while its Westside Industrial Park center is being expanded.

Property owner LIT Westlake LLC applied for an administrative deviation to the city’s zoning code to increase the maximum number of off-street parking spaces from 220 to 304.

“The tenant (UPS) will have more employees working at this facility than what the parking code will allow,” says the application.

UPS will lease the Westlake structure, previously used by Samsung Electronics America Inc., for additional package-processing capacity while its hub expansion at Westside Industrial Park is under development.

UPS’s renovations at the former Samsung building will cost at least $5.4 million and will be completed this fall in time for the holiday volume surge.

UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg said previously the operation will give UPS extra processing capacity during the November-December holiday season while construction of the Jacksonville hub is underway.

She said the new portion of the Jacksonville hub will be partially open by fall 2018, but the full project won’t be open until fall 2019.

UPS will shift some workers from Westside Industrial Park during the construction.

Maple Street to begin build-out in Baymeadows

Maple Street Biscuit Co. is a step closer to opening in Baymeadows.

Target Contractors Inc. will build-out space at 8358 Point Meadows Drive, No. 1, in the west part of the Point Meadows shopping center.

The city is reviewing a permit for interior demolition and other landlord work in the 2,879-square-foot space.

Maple Street partner Gus Evans said in May that the restaurant should open in late summer and employ 20-25 people.

It will be the 11th Maple Street Biscuit Co. The restaurants are open 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday-Saturday

Build-out is pending for Checkers at 714 103rd St. It’s a $475,000 project for the 2,142-square-foot project. K&G Construction Co. Inc. is the contractor.
