The JAX Chamber will host the second Jacksonville’s Longest Table community dinner Downtown on Nov. 15.
The Longest Table is a shared meal at one table that stretches hundreds of feet along Independent Drive to foster conversation and build relationships across economic, racial, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
The 2016 inaugural dinner drew more than 400 people from across Jacksonville for the open-air meal in Downtown.
“Seeing hundreds of people from all across our great city sitting next to each other at one table was truly amazing, but what’s even more remarkable are the meaningful conversations and relationships that began that night,” JAX Chamber Chair Darnell Smith said. “Events like this are important steps for us to better understand one another and come together to become the great city we know we can be.”
Dozens of elected officials and business and religious leaders will attend the dinner to introduce residents to people from neighborhoods across town and provide a setting to have meaningful conversations.
Businesses contributing food include Blue Bamboo, Indochine, Maple Street Biscuit Co., Mocha Misk’i, Seasons 52 and Soul Food Bistro.
The event is free, but a ticket is required. Five hundred tickets will be made available online Oct. 26 at bit.ly/LongestTable2017.
Northeast Florida Walmart customers can help the victims of Hurricane Harvey by donating at checkout, online or by smartphone.
Through Sunday, for every $1 donated, Walmart will contribute $2 worth of cash or products to the American Red Cross, up to $10 million.
Donations also will go to the Harvey Relief Fund and the Greater Houston Community Foundation
Customers can give when they check out at the store or online at Walmart.com or Samsclub.com. People also can donate $10 via their wireless carrier by texting WALMART to 90999.
“The devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in the Gulf region and the countless acts of kindness and selflessness that have happened in response have touched the hearts of people across the country,” said Jimmy Clark, Walmart regional general manager in Northeast Florida. “Customers who want to join us in providing support can do so by contributing at the cash register, online, or by text and we’ll make their contribution more impactful by matching it.”
