The SunTrust Foundation announced Monday it will commit $500,000 to disaster relief and recovery efforts in support of the communities and businesses impacted by Hurricane Irma.

Immediately, the SunTrust Foundation, based in Atlanta, is giving $250,000 to the American Red Cross to aid first responders as relief to those who’ve lost their homes and need food and shelter.

An additional $250,000 is earmarked to assist other organizations as ongoing needs are identified.

“The American Red Cross needs immediate assistance, and our grant of $250,000 will go toward initial recovery efforts to ensure everyone’s safety,” said David Fuller, president of the SunTrust Foundation, in a news release.

"As we continue to assess the outcome of the hurricane, we will provide additional grants to local non-profits to help people rebuild and ensure their well-being.”
