McDonald’s Corp. announced it will donate $1 million to the American Red Cross in support of the relief and recovery efforts for communities impacted by Hurricane Irma.

Last week, McDonald’s announced a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross for Harvey relief efforts as well as an employee match program matching staff contributions up to $250,000.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by Hurricane Irma including members of our McDonald’s family,” said McDonald’s U.S. President Chris Kempczinski in a news release.

“Once again, as a system, we are ready to do all we can to support the local communities as they recover from the devastation of this storm.”

As of Wednesday, about 665 of McDonald’s 905 restaurants in Florida were open to serve customers and restaurants are reopening as quickly as conditions allow.

As of Wednesday evening, 11 McDonald’s restaurants remained closed in the Jacksonville area while the other 102 were open.

The closed restaurants are expected to reopen soon.

Also throughout Florida McDonald’s restaurants are providing free meals to first responders.

“First and foremost our priority is the safety and well-being of our employees and customers,” Kempczinski said.

“We are working with our local teams to support their efforts to reopen as soon as they can to serve their communities.”

McDonald’s is based in Oak Brook, Illinois.
