Democrat Mia Jones and Republican Jim Overton will be the candidates in the Nov. 6 special election for Duval County Tax Collector.
Jones is CEO of Agape Community Health Care Inc. She was a Jacksonville City Council member from 2003 to 2008 and represented District 14 in the Florida House of Representatives from 2008 to 2016. She captured 46 percent of the vote.
Overton, a Realtor and broker-associate at ERA Davis & Linn, also was a council member from 1992 to 2003 and its 1997-98 president. After council, he was elected Duval County property appraiser and served three terms, leaving office in 2015. He had 21 percent of the vote.
Lake Ray finished third with 20 percent and Doyle Carter fourth with 13 percent.
