In recognition of his more than 40 years of service to the community and the legal profession, former State Attorney Harry Shorstein received the 2018 Justice Raymond Ehrlich Trial Advocacy Award on Tuesday at the conclusion of The Jacksonville Bar Association’s 16th annual Raymond Ehrlich Trial Advocacy Seminar.
It was presented to Shorstein by State Attorney Melissa Nelson. She was hired in 1997 by Shorstein as an assistant state attorney and served in the office for 12 years.
Shorstein was admitted to the Bar in 1965 and over his career served as an assistant public defender under Lou Frost, assistant state attorney under Ed Austin, city general counsel and in private practice before he was elected state attorney in 1991. He served in the office until 2008.
“It is an honor to be associated in any way with Ray Ehrlich,” said Shorstein.
The award is named for former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Raymond Ehrlich. It recognizes each year a local lawyer whose career embodies the qualities to which attorneys aspire, including professionalism, steadfast obedience to ethics and mentorship and willingness to help those in need.
