CSX Corp. continues renovating its Downtown headquarters.

Having remodeled the top executive floor at the 15-story riverfront building at 500 Water St., the transportation company now is renovating the 14th floor at a cost of $2.82 million.

“The renovations planned for the 14th floor of CSX’s headquarters building will modernize that space and will accommodate changes to the office space needs of our staff,” CSX said in a statement.

“Updates to the office and meeting spaces will maximize efficiency and create a more collaborative, better-quality work environment for teams co-locating on that floor.”

CSX said it expects the project to be completed by next summer.

The renovation is “part of the overall facilities program that CSX is implementing to accommodate the business’ changing requirements in the Jacksonville area.”

CSX has invested almost $8 million in the area since July 2017 in the headquarters and Southpoint data center, according to permits.

Since July 2017, the city issued almost 40 permits valued at $7.7 million for the headquarters building, mechanical, electrical, fire and related work and another eight permits valued at nearly $163,000 for the Southpoint property.

Duckworth Construction Co. is the contractor for the 14th-floor project. The city issued the building permit Tuesday.

Plans show offices, conference rooms and a “war room” in the 21,617 square feet of space.

In addition to the 14th and 15th floors, CSX remodeled other areas such as the lobby area, coffee shop and cafe.
