Development notes: WGV Gymnastics breaks ground on new facility; self-storage center planned for Kernan Village

WGV Gymnastics broke ground at World Golf Village for a 14,500-square-foot gymnastics facility at 135 Center Place Way in St. Johns County.

Owners Candace Smith and Heather Newton, a mother-and-daughter team, will keep their business open at 314 Commerce Lake Drive until they move to the new location in the summer. Brad Hollett, owner of ACT Architects and Accelerated Contractors Inc., designed and will build the project.

WGV Gymnastics opened in September 2011 to train and prepare athletes for collegiate gymnastics as well as those “who are just in the sport for fun.”

Development notes

• Industrial Park Investments Inc. applied to the St. Johns River Water Management District for a Phase 2 addition of 182,910 square feet to a previously permitted 140,833-square-foot building on about 22 acres at 10531 Busch Drive in Imeson International Industrial Park. That addition boosts the building to 323,743 square feet. EnVision Design + Engineering LLC is the civil engineer.

The city issued mobility fee and concurrency reservation certificates for a self-storage center at Kernan Village. The 109,788-square-foot project is planned on 2.22 acres south along Atlantic Boulevard, west of Kernan Boulevard. Plans show a four-story, 89,868-square-foot climate-controlled facility and four single-story buildings – three at 4,800 square feet and one at 5,520 square feet. The city calculated a mobility fee of $38,985 to mitigate the traffic impact. The St. Johns River Water Management District also is reviewing plans. Sleiman Enterprises is the property owner.

SunCap Southeast Industrial Joint Venture LLC seeks to update its planned unit development zoning on 66.3 acres at northwest Interstate 295 and Lem Turner Road in North Jacksonville to permit use as a solar farm. Plans previously submitted to the city indicate National Solar LLC will lease the land and be able to produce about 5 megawatts of power, or 5 million watts, through a series of nearly 28,000 photovoltaic solar modules. A JEA spokeswoman said in October the city-owned utility has a power-purchase agreement with National Solar at the SunPort Solar Farm. Solar energy is part of JEA’s effort to diversify its power production. The Jacksonville Planning Commission is scheduled to review the application Jan. 17. It is listed for a first reading at City Council on Jan. 22 and for the council Land Use & Zoning Committee Feb. 5.

• received a permit to add a $1.3 million conveyor support system at its fulfillment center in North Jacksonville at 12900 Pecan Park Road. RTM Renovations Inc. is the contractor.

 Champion Brands was permitted by the city to add solar panels to its new headquarters building at 5520 Florida Mining Blvd. S. A1A Solar Contracting Inc. is the contractor for the $233,350 construction project.
