Southern Grounds & Co. took a step forward in Avondale by winning approval Wednesday from the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission for a certificate of appropriateness of the architectural design for a new building in the Shoppes of Avondale.
Property owner Edward Skinner Jones plans to demolish a structure at 3562 St. Johns Ave. to build a coffee shop and two more tenant spaces for Stellers Gallery and a small market.
The next step will be the application for a building permit.
