A new car dealership appears to be on the way to West Jacksonville.

TT of Pickettville Inc. bought 9.38 undeveloped acres at southwest  Interstate 295 and Commonwealth Avenue for $4 million. It purchased the property Feb. 26 from N.G. Wade Investment Co.

The company is led by Terry Taylor, listed in state records as president and director.

Taylor leads two other companies that own dealerships in Jacksonville.

TT of Duval Inc. owns the Jacksonville Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in Arlington at  9600 Atlantic Blvd., a former Toys R Us store it bought in 2011. It expanded on that site.

TT of Jacksonville Inc. owns the Jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Fiat at 11101 Nurseryfields Drive in Southeast Jacksonville. The three-story dealership was built in 2004 at northeast I-95 and Baymeadows Road.

Taylor is based in West Palm Beach. He and the local dealership managers did not respond Monday to phone calls.

The proposed Westside dealership has been in review.

In January, the Jacksonville Planning Commission approved a minor modification to the Pickettville Road planned unit development to revise the site plan for an automobile dealership.

The site originally was approved for 150,000 square feet of commercial uses, which allows the retail sale of autos, trucks, service garage and car wash.

JEA issued a service availability letter Feb. 25 for a 54,000-square-foot automobile dealership.

The property is near a hotel, a business park and truck and trailer sales and rental.

The site plan indicates access from Pickettville Road and Commonwealth Avenue.

Taylor makes news in the automotive industry.

The Automotive News industry trade publication calls Taylor “one of the biggest success stories in auto retailing.”

He owns about 120 U.S. dealerships, mostly in the Southeast, it reported in March 2018.

Taylor began his career in the 1970s in Daytona Beach selling used cars and as of last year was estimated to sell 300,000 new and used vehicles a year at his dealerships, it reported.

“Terry Taylor has built an empire through a strategy of offering his general managers equity ownership in their stores,” Automotive News reported.
