The 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission convened Wednesday and interviewed 15 applicants for the vacancy created when Duval County Judge Meredith Charbula was appointed to the circuit court.
After deliberating, the commission submitted the names of six nominees to Gov. Ron DeSantis:
• Michael Fackler, 47, a shareholder at Milam Howard Nicandri Gillam & Renner.
A graduate of the University of Florida Levin College of Law, he was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2002.
• Rhonda Peoples-Waters, 45, president and owner of Rhonda Peoples-Waters PA.
She graduated from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1999.
• W. Bradley Russell Jr., 38, an associate attorney at Foley & Lardner.
A graduate of William & Mary Law School, Russell was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2006.
• R. Anthony Salem, 34, assistant general counsel for the city of Jacksonville.
Salem graduated from Stetson University College of Law. He was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2010.
• Julie Taylor, 48, general counsel for the 4th Judicial Circuit.
A graduate of Samford University Cumberland College of Law, Taylor was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1996.
• David Tucker, 56, regional counsel for the Florida Department of Children and Families Northeast Region.
He graduated from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1987.
It was the first time Russell and Salem have applied for a judicial vacancy.
The nominees will be interviewed in Tallahassee by the governor's staff. DeSantis has 60 days to appoint one of the nominees to the Duval County Court.
