Corrigan named dean of Jacksonville University College of Arts and Sciences

He's a former professor and department chair at the University of North Florida.

Jacksonville University on Friday named Matthew Corrigan, a political scientist, author, commentator and researcher, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

“Dr. Corrigan is a proven academic leader, energetic faculty advocate, and tireless mentor who can help instill in all of our students the critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills that are necessary for lifelong success no matter their field of study,” JU Provost Christine Sapienza said in a news release.

Corrigan, who received his Ph.D. From the University of Florida, was a political science and public administration professor at the University of North Florida and chair of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration.

He is a nationally recognized expert in American and Southern politics and the American presidency and has published three books, as well as numerous peer-reviewed articles and chapters.

“His insights into politic processes and players is objective, nuanced, and detailed. An academic through and through, he understands that faculty are the core of a university and that shared governance is essential. I consider him a friend and wish him well at JU,” said John Delaney, former president of the University of North Florida, in the release.
