A position is open for one lawyer to serve a three-year term on the Florida Legal Services Inc. board of directors beginning July 1.

The 15-member board provides judicial advocacy through co-counseling with local program attorneys and volunteer pro bono attorneys.

Also, the Florida Lawyers Assistance Inc. board of directors is seeking two nonlawyers to serve three-year terms beginning July 1.

The 15-member board assists the legal community in securing counseling and treatment for emotional and chemical dependency problems for lawyers.

Applicants for either vacancy may download the Application for Special Appointment at floridabar.org or call Florida Bar headquarters at (850) 561-5757 to obtain the application.

Completed applications must be received no later than the close of business April 30. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the required application.

The board of governors will review all applications and may request telephone or personal interviews.

Freed to Run Nov. 16-22

Gunster shareholder Michael Freed scheduled Freed to Run 4.0, the fourth edition of his series of six daily marathon runs from Tallahassee to Jacksonville, Nov. 16-20.

Freed begins the event on the steps of the state Supreme Court building and crosses the finish line on the lawn at the Duval County Courthouse.

He is joined each day by relay teams from the business and legal communities that pledge donations to the Northeast Florida Medical Legal Partnership endowment at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid.

With a 125% match from the Baptist Health Foundation, Freed and the relay runners have raised more than $1 million since 2017 to provide free civil legal service to pediatric patients and their families.
