Because of the retirement of Circuit Judge Karen Cole, effective Oct. 1, there is a vacancy on the 4th Circuit Court bench. Gov. Ron DeSantis has directed the 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission to convene and provide him with up to six qualified nominees for the vacancy.

The application form may be downloaded from The Florida Bar’s website at www.floridabar.org or the Office of the Governor at www.flgov.com.

Complete unredacted and redacted applications must be received before 5 p.m. July 23 in PDF form, including a digital photograph, via e-mail to the commission’s chair: [email protected].

Additionally, a copy of both the unredacted and redacted applications should be forwarded to: Courtney Grimm, County Attorney, P.O. Box 1366, Green Cove Springs, Florida, 32043.

Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. Applicants must meet the qualifications for Judges outlined in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution.

Interviews will be conducted Aug. 13 in Chief Judge Mark Mahon’s chambers at the Duval County Courthouse.

The commission’s proceedings are open to the public except for deliberations. Accordingly, applicants should not expect their application to be kept confidential.

Questions about the application process should be directed to Grimm at (904) 955-8872. Applicants shall not initiate contact with the commissioners until the nominees are submitted to DeSantis unless questions pertain to the application process only.
