Lego fan convention coming to town

The BrickUniverse LEGO Fan Convention is coming to the Jacksonville Fairgrounds.

The event is Oct. 2-3 in the Expo Center, according to a news release from BrickUniverse.

Professional Lego artist Jonathan Lopes from San Diego will showcase more than 30 of his displays, including a model of New York City’s Woolworth Building. He will talk to attendees about his life and job and how they can become Lego master builders.

Chicago-based Lego artist Rocco Buttliere will bring more than 50 models of landmarks including the tallest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Westminster Palace in London. 

Other attractions:

• Lego Friends Building Area.

• Big Brick Building, where younger visitors can explore imagination through building with larger Lego Duplo bricks.

• Lego merchandise and souvenirs.

• Star Wars Zone, where attendees can build spaceships with thousands of Lego Star Wars-themed bricks.

Tickets are available in advance for $15 per person at www.brickuniverse.com/jacksonville for either of two sessions scheduled each day.
